About Gail Byrd Gross
1944 – 2009
Gail Gross joined the Howey Garden and Civic Club in the early 2000’s and was immediately drawn to working with the club’s Community Service and Welfare committee because of her sincere concern for those less fortunate. Her compassion for others drew her up through the club’s ranks to 1st Vice President and then to President-Elect. Her commitment to helping others remained constant throughout her life.
In honor of her giving spirit, the scholarship fund was aptly named.
Howey-in-the-Hills Garden and Civic Club Scholarship
The Howey Garden and Civic Club provides scholarships for one or two students each year who have aged out of foster care under the Kids Central program, but continue into Independent Living/Adult Care. Those who wish to further their education in technical or academic areas may apply for the scholarship.
Each winter, Independent Living young adults, who are pre-selected by their Kids Central counselors, are considered as candidates for our scholarship. They provide a short synopsis of their backgrounds and explain how they would best use the scholarship funds. From these letters, students are awarded scholarships in the spring through Kids Central, Inc. and our club.
